National Iranian Industries Organization (NIIO) was formed in 1979 to safeguard the public interest in the domestic industries. 
The NIIO have, since then, been exerting the organization's overall policies for short-term and long-term planning and management of the activities of the affiliated companies in line with the general economic policies of the country. 
At present there are about 90 companies affiliated to the organization, of which 70 are manufacturing companies and remaining 20 companies are involved in trading and engineering services.

The major product groups produced by NIIO affiliated companies are: 
Food Stuff : confectionary, Preserved food 
Pharmaceutical : pharmaceutical, hygienic and cosmetics, tubes 
Textile & Leather : blankets, fabrics, yarn, hand-made carpet, footwear, leather 
Cellulose : Craft liner paper, fluting paper, tissue 
Chemicals : tyre and rubber articles, plastic articles, chemicals 
Construction materials : tile and ceramic , wire and cable, plug, sockets, switches 
Electric and home Appliances : refrigerators, fridge-freezers, TV sets, washing machine, coolers, heaters
